Layers are your friend
The weather at Moraine Lake can vary throughout the day, so it is important to have a number of layers. This way, you can remove or add layers as necessary to remain comfortable during your visit.
- Base Layer – We recommend wearing a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat away from your skin. Good options include short- or long-sleeve merino wool tops and bottoms, or other breathable activewear.
- Middle Layer – An insulating layer such as a down or fleece jacket adds warmth and comfort during colder times of day. This is a must for guests experiencing our sunrise shuttle, as early-morning temperatures can average between 2°C and 6°C at Moraine Lake.
- Outer Layer – A waterproof or windproof jacket helps keep the elements away. With the ever-changing weather of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, it is a good idea to be prepared. Even in summer, rain showers do happen.
Comfortable footwear is a must
With rocky paths along the stunning lakeshore, steps winding up the world-famous Rockpile and many wooded trails in the area, the environment at Moraine Lake is rugged and beautiful. Supportive and comfortable footwear is important to ensure you have a safe visit.
- Hiking Boots – A great all-around choice for visitors, especially for those planning to hike in the area, thanks to the ankle support and grip they offer.
- Trail Runners or Sneakers – A lighter option popular among runners and sightseers. Be sure that your shoes have adequate grip. We recommend avoiding open-toed footwear during your visit.
When in doubt, accessorize
Functional accessories add style and comfort. Here are a few of our recommendations!
Hats – A cosy beanie will keep you warm during sunrise, while a baseball cap or sun hat provides protection later in the day.
Sunglasses – Keep your eyes protected from the sun’s rays and look cool at the same time. Fun shades are encouraged!
Gloves – Ideal for colder mornings and when the brisk wind picks up. Thin gloves and liners are a great lightweight option.
Backpack – For keeping all your snacks, water and layers with you.
